Calvary UMC has long been committed to taking an active role in addressing food insecurity in Northern New Jersey. Opportunities abound, with various ways to get involved!

Food Brigade

Our church is the home base for The Food Brigade (The Food Brigade Inc.), a far-reaching non-profit ministry providing a variety of nourishing foods to families, individuals, food pantries, churches, and other groups in need. This is a massive effort and it’s inspiring to see so many people work together! Join the team of volunteers via the following link: Volunteer with The Food Brigade Inc and read more about Food Brigade and Calvary’s participation here

Walk-in Dinner

Calvary’s signature event, the Walk-In Dinner, has been a tremendous success for over 18 years. Each month, we welcome dozens of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and mental illnesses from Bergen County to enjoy a nutritious meal. The opportunity to socialize and enjoy delicious food is incredibly meaningful to volunteers and guests alike. The Walk-In Dinner program is suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions, but we hope to gather around the table again soon!

Family Promise

Calvary members also actively support the Family Promise (Home – Family Promise of Bergen County (https://bergenfamilypromise.org) program and volunteers enjoy sharing companionship, friendship and healthy meals with families lacking a permanent home.

At Calvary, we value opportunities to make new friends and build meaningful relationships. Small groups are organized year-round and include discussion groups such as Bible study, movie, book or podcast reviews, prayer circles, as well as activity-based gatherings focused on specific hobbies and interests. Enjoy cooking, crafting, or knitting? (Or want to learn how?) Do you enjoy concerts and listening to music? Hiking? Fishing? Garage sales? At Calvary, you’ll find opportunities to meet and enjoy time with others who share your passions!

Join “Online Bible Study with Pastor Schuyler” on Tuesdays at 8:00 pm.

Worship and Music

Services are Sundays at 9:30 am. We believe worship is best when it is exciting, relevant, and accessible to all ages.  We welcome you to soak up God’s presence in moments of silence, lift your voice in song, read from Holy Scripture, or share your own story or prayer.

Come to one of our services to hear the amazing praise band. Led by Pat Lobascio, and including the talented John Bruton on vocals and guitar. You will find yourself tapping your feet, humming, or singing along whether you are engaging in-person or virtually.

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40

Jesus reminds us that when we care for others, we care for him also. Calvary is known as a place “where there’s always something going on,” because we actively engage to meet the needs of our diverse community.  We believe in sharing our talent and resources to benefit those who need help and to bring awareness to issues which warrant attention and action.

Calvary’s building is always buzzing with action and we are open to new ideas!  If you’re looking to make a difference, there is truly an opportunity for everyone!

Calvary’s activities include, but are not limited to:

Response to natural disaster
Providing food, clothing, or care packages to those in need
Partnering with businesses, community, and interfaith organizations
Hosting blood drives
Providing meeting space for recovery groups, scouts and other groups
Events for Seniors
Community concerts/dinners

Note: our building remains open at this time for NA and AA meetings.  We follow all CDC and State COVID-19 Safety Guidelines
